Rukavac is located on the southeast side of island Vis, only 9 km from town Vis and 16 km from town Komiza. This small village does not have a grocery store or post office (available in towns) so it is more suitable for guests arriving with private cars and motorcycles. During spring and summer, there is a regular daily bakery products delivery (each morning) and delivery of fruits and vegetables – a mini-van delivery arrives 3 times a week so guests can have all the necessary groceries during their stay in Rukavac even without going to larger store in Vis or Komiza. You can also find fresh fish on fishermen boats that arrive to small marina in Rukavac. There are also two restaurants in the village, just by the sea with great sea views. The closest supermarket, pharmacy and clinic as well as post office and bank are located in towns Vis and Komiza.

In the past, Rukavac was a fishermen's village but now it is more known as an attractive tourist destination due to lovely holiday homes, great beaches and clean sea. Among the best known is pebble beach Srebrna and many also enjoy Veliki Tepljuh and Mali Tepljuh that are located in Rukavac. In front of Rukavac bay there are a couple of islets ideal for daily excursions – Ravnik with well-known Green Cave (that is the most popular after the famous Blue Cave on islet Bisevo near Komiza), Mali Budikovac and Veliki Budikovac with their sandy and pebble beaches.

Spending holiday in Rukavac is the right choice for those who want to participate in beach activities and excursions during the day and enjoy dining Dalmatian cuisine in company of friends and family.
